Football 2016 - 2017

May 2017

On 24th May we played our third league match of the year, Whinstone visited Billingham South for our first home game. Billingham South won the match 5-0. The first half was very tight with both teams trying to figure out how best to attack and create opportunities. Going in 0-0 at half time I spoke to the boys and asked them to relax and play how I knew they could. Guy started the goalscoring after playing brilliantly in the first half and his performance deserved the hat-trick he scored. The other goals were scored by captain Sam who continues to lead by example in everything he does and Viyasan smashing in another terrific strike. Keeping a clean sheet was also important after conceeding goals in previous matches, Rahen in goal and Brandon, Tom and  Dahen did a brilliant job against some good footballers. In midfield Leon Grianger provided the engine and a calm head who continues to impress who never gave up. I am so proud of how much we have developed as a team and hope that it continues in future games.

On Monday 8th May the Year 3 and 4 girls had a fantastic day out at Northfield. They went to compete against other schools in football and did remarkably well. Due to the children’s good team work, positive attitude and fantastic football skills they manage to come away with a bronze medal. The children came 3rd place out of 12 schools. The children encouraged each other through the match and were able to give both positive and constructive feedback. Amazing result Year 3 and 4 girls, well done!
