Brilliant Club

Well done to our The Brilliant Club pupils!

We joined the Brilliant Club this year. This is a charity that encourages children to stretch themselves in order to have the opportunity to gain a place at a highly selective university when they are older.  Twelve children from Years 5 & 6 were chosen to participate this year, they took part in the Scholars Programme which involved an initial visit to the University of Leeds followed by a series of tutorials with a PhD tutor in order to complete a project. Our project was based on Ancient Maths and the development of Pythagoras Theorem.  The children carried out their own research and submitted reports that were approximately 1000 words in total. We are delighted that all of our children passed their assignments, with 2 children gaining a distinction!  At the end of January they were all invited, along with their parents, to attend a graduation ceremony at the University of Durham.  Everyone had an amazing time and will hopefully take what they have learnt with them.  We look forward to hearing which university they have been accepted into and can’t wait to do it all again with another group of children next year.
