Olympics Day

A fantastic Sports Afternoon was enjoyed by all! Children, from Reception through to Y6 took part in various races including the sprint, the egg and spoon and the sack race. All of the children in each of their houses competed magnificently and showed their tremendous talent. At the end of the afternoon Mandela House (Blue) were victorious and the Y6 Captains, received the cup on behalf of their team.

South America

At Billingham South Community Primary we are very proud to be part of a vibrant school that embraces cultures from all over the world through the ‘Arts’ - music, drama, art and dance.  As well as our topic work, the whole school has taken part in a Summer Term project, this year it was based on South America to celebrate the Olympics in Brazil and Billingham International Folklore Festival’s (BIFF) visiting dance groups.  We have also celebrated the Stockton Cycling Festival held in June by designing and creating a ‘Wheel of Art’ installation, which was on show along the cycle route and has now been returned and installed in school.  All work has been researched, designed and created by our children, as part of their topic work or with our resident local artists Shirley Wells and Ben Reche during workshops over five weeks.

Macbeth

Mrs Squire and Mrs Hendy have worked with a group of children at Shakespeare club all year to study Macbeth. On 5th July these pupils put on an amazing adaptation of Macbeth for their families to see. There were some incredible performances with children giving soliloquies and staging battle scenes. This performance was the end result of a lot of hard work, a study programme which included a workshop at the globe theatre and many hours of rehearsal at school and with families. The performance was superb. Well done Shakespeare Club!

Drumming

Children in the Infant Assessment Class have enjoyed learning to 'Samba drum' as part of their topic on Brazil. They learned how to make a Samba rhythm, which they could then use in their dancing or when tapping & shaking other instruments! It was lots of fun!

Battle of the Somme Memorial Service

On Friday, 1st July, Year 6 attended a service at Billingham War memorial to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.  Before the service we researched the names of some of the local soldiers who sadly died during the battle. We wrote their names on wooden crosses and planted them during the service.
